'not allowed' to meet staff
SWANSEA
East Assembly Member Val Lloyd has claimed she was refused access to a
closure- threatened civil service department in the city.
Mrs Lloyd says Land
Registry chiefs at the High Street office refused her entry to meet with
local trade union representatives.
The closure of the office
could result in the potential loss of 200 jobs.
Mrs Lloyd said: "I was
appalled at the Land Registry management's decision not to allow me into the
building.
"I understand that
management have also described my proposed visit to give information to a
union consultation meeting as ‘inappropriate, unacceptable, and will not be
permitted.
"The local union is
working hard to try to save these jobs and is appealing for work, which is
planned for England, to come to the Swansea area”
Union
official Liz Evans, Branch secretary of the Public and Commercial Services
Union,
said: "I had tried to meet with Val and wasn't allowed to take any time off.
'This
office is closing,- the building is closing, they are winding it down.
“The
worry is that Land Registry office that is remaining in the Enterprise Zone
is full to capacity and there will be no room for the 280 staff to transfer
over.
But
Land Registry Officials have denied refusing access.
A land
Registry spokesman said “ We have not received any formal request from Val
Lloyd
to visit the Swansea office.
"As a
matter of courtesy we would" ensure that she has the opportunity to meet
with union representatives.”
