PCS SW Wales is asking members to support our brother Yayha Al Faifi in his hour of need.
The Wales TUC in conference in 2006 carried a motion about the campaign for democratic trade union rights in Saudi Arabia, which is enclosed HERE.

The campaign was initiated by Yayha Al-Faifi who had to claim asylum following threats to him and his family after campaigning to unionise the Saudi workers in British Aerospace in Saudi Arabia.  Trade unions
are illegal in Saudi and it was too dangerous for him to remain in the country.

His application has now been turned down by the Home office on the grounds that it is "safe" for him to return.

There is a campaign to support his appeal against this decision and show the support that Yahya has in this country.  Yahya has supported trade union campaigns in this country since he arrived and now he needs
trade union support himself.  It is urgent as his appeal is on the 22nd January. Any assistance that your branch can  provide - specifically, by writing to the Home Secretary (model letter HERE) and circulating the
attached PETITION - would be greatly appreciated.

There is now an UPDATE February 2009. Yahya's appeal has been turned down. All members are urged to send the model letter contained HERE.

     LEAN - THE TRUTH!!

HMRC introduced LEAN methods of processing work some time ago, and the union has been in dispute ever since. Now     the Government appears committed to introducing this de-skilling methodology across other departments such as DVLA.       BEWARE - LEAN seriously damages you members health, as the three articles by Steve Lintern (a ULR rep in Llanishen,     Cardiff HMRC) attest. To view these excellent articles, merely click on the links (they open in Word). Life in the LEAN mean, Staff Reducing Machine ; Sadistic Statistics ; The truth about Change
