February 2008 branch update reproduced below;
1) Move
of staff to new premises in Swansea is apparently still going ahead although
the date is uncertain & impact of UK Border Agency (UKBA) not being factored
in;
2)
Changes due to announcement of UKBA still unclear, Border & Immigration
Agency (BIA) management in Wales not aware of any proposals as yet for the
structure of UKBA i.e. Wales as an operational unit or with another part of
UK;
3)
Second meeting of PCS reps from BIA & Customs next Monday at PCS HQ, to
discuss latest position, agree how PCS should proceed etc.
4) This
branch is undergoing a bit of turmoil at the moment - there is a possibility
that the branch may split in two with Wales & South West becoming a separate
branch although we'll have to get the NEC to agree this even with
re-organisation due to UKBA on the horizon.
5) PCS
Wales Committee - we're no longer entitled to send a delegate to even the
AGM of this committee which seems unfair on the PCS members in Wales that
the branch has - please efer to the motions I circulated earlier this week.
6)
Industrial action - it looks like the strike on 31st Jan in the HO over thei
mposed pay offer is almost definitely not on. The GEC decision was linked
to HMRC achieving a 'Yes' vote and it seems very unlikely that we'll go
ahead based on the info. on the PCS website.
